Less waste & more recycling? How to use smart waste systems and RFID-technology to create sustainable behavior change. Insights from a pilot project in Stockholm.
In the Stockholm Royal Seaport city district uses a unique waste data collection system offered by RFID-equipped waste chutes to collect household-level waste data in a multi-residential context and involve residents in interventions targeted at increasing recycling and reducing overall amounts of waste. User id waste data is used to give social norm-based feedback to residents and thereby encourage them to improve their waste-behaviors. Besides making this feedback available through a smartphone app, they are also working with additional physical interventions to improve performance.
